OK...you have the Creative Sound card installed and you have the onboard audio controller enabled...can't do that. I'm surprised the 'puter hasn't crashed on you. The reason you're not getting any 'cursor' sounds, but are probably getting music and game sounds is because you have them both enabled and one of them is muting 'computer sounds'. Voice Cancellation settings in the onboard software set to enabled will also do it....pick one....

Should I have anything under "Microsoft VM" enabled? Such as Java Console...Java logging or JIT compiler for virtual machine? No idea if that has anything to do with this problem.

no...has nothing to do with this....as info: you shouldn't even have MS VM on your machine, unless you did not install any SP's after SP1. Should be Sun Java.

Ok...just checking. I have Sun Java. Not sure if the onboard audio controller is actually enabled. I just copied that info out of my Everest Home Edition utility that gives my info on my PC. How would I know if it is enabled?

And no...no SP's other than SP1.

You need to boot into the bios...when the 'Post' writing first appears on the re-boot, hit the 'del' key. The bios menu will pop up. I don't know what board you have, but it will probably be listed under Integrated Peripherals

Disable the Onboard Audio, hit F10 key and then the Enter key.

Ok...I'll give that a try. And if I'm not imposing...could you send me an email...got a question I'd like to ask.

Post your email...wait 2 minutes, then 'edit' it out.

Sound.......OFF

ok.... Doing it now, and now that I think about it I'm pretty sure that it "was" off before I did my reformat.

Ok...done...still no cursor sounds though.

Is the SoundMax software still installed? Check the Creative sound ware and see what you have enabled. Sometimes the EAX settings can trash your sounds.......

Look in Folder Options/File Type...see what .wav is associated with...
on Apr 14, 2005
Yes...still installed. I'll check the settings.

My servers are down,(I'm 'borrowing' one) so you may or may not have my e mail.
on Apr 14, 2005
Borrowing a server huh?...must be nice! And no...no email. No biggy though...gotta head out to work soon for a few hours.

And .wav opens with winamp? I'm wondering now if some setting related to cursor animations was changed somehow as well.
on Apr 14, 2005
Winamp........???????????

All the CursorXP sounds are wave files...Winamp can't be a good thing in regards to CursorXP. I'm not certain that that in itself wouldn't prevent the cursors file from working correctly....

If all else fails, then you might want to re-associate it with Media player. You do have all the sound files in the CursorXP Sound folder, correct? Click on one and see what happens.,
on Apr 14, 2005
Oh yeah...I was always able to hear the sounds when trying to enable them in Cursor Xp Config. But when I hit apply...nothing.

Ok...change it over to Media player...but still no change,

Heading out to work now for a few...catch up with ya when I get back.
